Polling editor Carl Cannon said Monday that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has set herself apart from her Democratic primary opponents by rolling out policy proposals.
“For Elizabeth Warren, she’s staking out her ground in a very crowded Democratic primary field with some actual proposals, which they aren’t all doing,” Cannon, executive editor at Real Clear Politics, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“So, she’s to be commended for that,” he added.
While Warren continues to trail her primary opponents, including front-runners former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in polls, she has made headlines with her recent policy proposals, including a plan to cancel nearly all student loan debt and create universal free public college.
The plan would cancel up to $50,000 in debt for 42 million Americans, or 95 percent of individuals with student loan debt.
“It’s time to end that experiment, to clean up the mess it’s caused, and to do better—better for people who want to go (or go back) to college, better for current students, better for graduates, better for their families, and better for our entire economy,” Warren wrote in a Medium post.
The idea of tuition-free college and forgiveness of student loan debt has gained traction among Democrats in recent years after Sanders ran on a tuition-free college platform in 2016.
