Dem strategist says 2020 race will largely be issues-oriented

Democratic strategist Duvalier Malone said on Hill.TV’s “What America’s Thinking” on Wednesday that the upcoming 2020 primary and the general election will be largely issues-oriented.

“I believe that the American people on both sides of the aisles are looking at the issues,” said Malone, author of “Those Who Give a Damn.”

“If we take, for instance, Joe Biden, who just got into the race, I believe the reason why he’s so high up in the polls among both Trump supporters, as well as Democrats, is because people are looking at the issues,” he continued.

“They’re going to be looking at health care,” Malone added. “They’re going to be looking at student loans. They’re going to be looking at education. They’re going to be looking at all of these issues that affect them personally.”

Malone’s comments come as President Trump ramps up his attacks on former Vice President Joe Biden, who is leading a field of more than a dozen Democratic White House hopefuls.

The president’s attacks have been perceived as a sign of Trump viewing Biden as a threat ahead of 2020, given their shared support among white, working-class Americans.
