President Trump’s job approval ticked up slightly after he tested positive for coronavirus, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Trump and first lady Melania Trump were diagnosed with the coronavirus late last Thursday night. Trump was later hospitalized Friday afternoon and remained at Walter Reed Military Medical Center until the evening on Monday.
Forty-six percent of registered voters in the Oct. 3-6 survey approve of the job Trump is doing as president, a 1 percentage point increase from a survey conducted just after last week’s debate when he received 45 percent support.
In a previous approval survey conducted in late September, 45 percent of participants surveyed approved of Trump while 55 percent disapproved, a number that shows there has been little fluctuation in Trump’s overall support for his job in office.
The survey finds Trump’s support among seniors remains underwater.
Forty-two percent of voters 65 and older said they approve of Trump’s job as president while 58 percent disapprove in the September poll.
Support among this group dropped to 39 percent in the survey taken just after the debate, but bounced back up to 42 percent in this most recent survey following Trump’s diagnosis and hospitalization.
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 2,841 registered voters between Oct. 3-6. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.84 percentage points.
