A slim majority of voters say President Biden’s lack of press conferences is not creating transparency issues for his administration, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Fifty-two percent of registered voters in the March 19-22 survey said the daily briefings by White House press secretary Jen Psaki and Biden’s other media appearances are sufficient.
By contrast, 48 percent said the lack of press conferences involving Biden is a problem for transparency.
Biden on Thursday is expected to hold his first press conference since taking office.
Seventy-eight percent of Democratic respondents in the poll said the daily White House briefings and Biden’s other media appearances are enough. Among independents, 51 percent agreed.
Seventy-three percent of Republicans, however, said Biden’s lack of press conferences has created transparency problems.
Biden has waited longer than any of his recent predecessors to hold an official news conference, prompting criticism of transparency at the White House.
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 2,858 registered voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.83 percentage points.
