A majority of voters say they support impeaching former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) even after his resignation, a new nationwide Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Sixty-eight percent of surveyed registered voters across the country said they supported impeaching Cuomo, while 32 percent opposed the move.
The poll was conducted Aug. 13-14 and Aug. 16-17, shortly after Cuomo announced that he would be stepping down. His resignation did not take effect until Aug. 25.
The New York Assembly announced earlier this month that it would suspend its impeachment probe into Cuomo after he announced his resignation, saying his exit made the matter moot.
Cuomo resigned following a series of sexual harassment and abuse allegations, though has denied wrongdoing.
Seventy-two percent of Republicans in the Hill-HarrisX poll said they support impeaching Cuomo after his resignation, along with 62 percent of Democrats and 69 percent of independents.
In his farewell address, Cuomo slammed the investigation by state Attorney General Letitia James (D) into the sexual misconduct allegations against him, calling the probe a “political firecracker.”
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 1,919 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 2.24 percentage points.
