Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton took things a bit literally during a campaign stop in North Carolina last week, reading “sigh” off the teleprompter rather than actually sighing.
During her speech on June 22, Clinton accused Donald Trump, her Republican counterpart, of attacking her to distract people from realizing he has no concrete policies.
{mosads}As she mentioned Trump’s attacks on her faith, Clinton read the teleprompter word-for-word.
“So all he can do is try to distract us, that’s even why he’s attacking my faith,” she said.
“Sigh,” she added.
It’s unclear whether Clinton intentionally read the word or whether “sigh” was actually a cue for her to sigh audibly.
Update: The Clinton campaign strongly disputed The Hill’s characterization of Clinton’s comment.
Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said, “The word ‘sigh’ was indeed impromptu, as was reported concurrently, and I’m not sure your sleuthing that determined that it ‘appeared’ she was reading those words off the glass is reporting so much as moronic.”
