Arizona senator says Trump’s border wall not ‘advisable’

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said in an interview broadcast Sunday that Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall across the U.S. border with Mexico isn’t “advisable.”

{mosads}Speaking with John Catsimatidis in a radio interview, Flake was asked whether Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, is right to be alarmed about border security.

“To think that we’d have a wall like Donald Trump is talking about across our 225-mile border with Mexico from California to Texas isn’t very feasible, or advisable,” he said.

But there are still concerns about the border, Flake said, admitting he is concerned about drug trafficking and the possibility of terrorists coming across from Mexico.

Flake argued the federal government hasn’t done enough to secure the border and Arizona is paying the price.

“Certainly we need better border security,” he said. “We have about a 750-mile border in Arizona with Mexico and we bear the brunt of the federal government’s failure to have a secure border.”

Flake has been a vocal critic of his party’s likely presidential nominee.

Last month he said he “can’t see [himself] voting for Donald Trump.”
