Two bailiffs were killed and a deputy sheriff was injured Monday after a man opened gunfire at a courthouse in Michigan.
{mosads}The suspect was reportedly an in-custody inmate, according to ABC affiliate WZZM. He took a gun off of a law enforcement officer and started shooting.
The suspect was also shot and killed, said Berrien Country Sheriff L. Paul Bailey.
Bailey said “several” civilians were injured in the incident around 2:30 p.m. local time, but all of them are in stable condition.
“They went for shelter once the shooting occurred and other brave officers were able to come to their rescue and take the shooter down,” said Bailey.
Berrien County Commissioner Jeanette Leahey told The Detroit Free Press that she is “discouraged and disgusted.”
“We’re in a difficult time in the world. We all know that. It’s unfortunate that it’s coming close to home,” she said.
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) said that authorities had “secured the scene”:
