Exec: Google warns 4,000 users a month of state-sponsored attacks

Google notifies customers of 4,000 state-sponsored cyber attacks a month, an executive said at a conference Thursday.

{mosads}In 2012, Gmail began placing a top-of-page banner warning on users’ accounts whenever it detects suspicious activity from state actors. The move spurred Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo and Twitter to follow suit.  This year Gmail’s warning expanded to a full-page notice. 

In January, Newsweek reported that “most’ of a cohort of “security researchers, filmmakers and privacy advocates” notified by Twitter of a state-sponsored attack on accounts believed the perpetrator to be the United States.
