FAA mandates no-fly zone over conventions

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has mandated that the skies over the presidential nominating conventions will be a no-fly zone.

{mosads}The FAA has warned pilots to give the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia a 34.5-mile radius.

The temporary flight restrictions will apply to most flights, including drones, seaplane operations, hang gliders, parachute operations, animal control population, aerobatic flights, model rocketry and flight training.

But approved law enforcement, military aircraft being directly used for the conventions, medical emergency planes and regularly scheduled commercial and cargo flights will still be permitted.

The FAA urged pilots to check back frequently for possible changes to the ban prior to operating in the region.

The no-fly zones will last from July 17 to 22 in Cleveland and from July 25 to 29 in Philadelphia.
