West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin will attend a “short portion” of the Democratic National Convention later this month, a change of course after it was reported earlier Thursday that he would skip the event because of flooding in his state.

{mosads}Politico reports that Manchin will address the West Virginia delegation in Philadelphia, after telling the paper earlier in the day that he was skipping the whole gathering.

“We were working on that and everything, but it looks like I’ve got people coming in for flood relief. … It looks like I’m going to be working in different parts of my state. I just got to get some stuff done, I really do,” Manchin had told Politico earlier, noting that the Army Corps of Engineers might be in his state to help deal with the floods.

The intense floods in West Virginia killed more than 20 people and wreaked havoc across the state.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) is still planning to attend and speak at the Republican National Convention next week, which several other prominent Republicans will be skipping.
