Tim Allen: Inauguration and protests ‘make you really like this country’

Comedian Tim Allen praised both attendees and protesters at the presidential inauguration Friday, saying the event “makes you really like this country.”

“My wife and I are impressed — impressed with the people who showed up, impressed with the people who protested,” Allen, the star of ABC’s “Last Man Standing,” said as he waited for the inauguration to begin. “It makes you really like this country.”

Allen, who backed Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the Republican primary, said he came to the inauguration for “nonpartisan” reasons as a guest of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

{mosads}”it’s a special thing, this U.S. government,” Allen said. “It’s messy and dirty and all of that — but look at all the people.”

The “Home Improvement” star added that he expects that President-elect Donald Trump will benefit from the presidency’s “sense of dignity” while in office.

“You put the cloak of the presidency on any man — any woman, for that matter — there’s a responsibility and a sense of dignity,” Allen said. “My expectations — I don’t do them, but I think it will help this guy. You put that cloak on, you see what this is about. Everybody has got some faith in him, he’s a resonance guy.”
