WATCH: Trump “spygate” is effort to “undermine a lawful investigation,” Dem Rep says
A member of the House Intelligence Committee worries that “evidence” shared in Thursday’s meeting between the White House, Congress and the Justice Department (DOJ) will be “passed back to the president.”
“Never in the history of criminal justice proceedings has a witness or a subject of an investigation been able to reach into the FBI’s evidence locker and see the evidence that exists in the case,” former prosecutor Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell (Calif.) told The Hill, adding, “The White House is going to be a part of this briefing. We are afraid that information will be passed to the president and his legal team.
Swalwell, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, also took issue with the president’s latest characterization of the DOJ/FBI handling of the investigation into his presidential campaign and potential collusion with Russia as “spygate.”
“This is another effort by the president to undermine a lawful investigation … Now what the president says and let’s wrap this up — you don’t get to draw your campaign so close to Russians and then complain when the special counsel is still counting the Russians. If you continue to lie, that delays and investigation. The more you lie the longer it takes,” Swalwell said.
