Mueller requested interview from Roger Stone acquaintance

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has reportedly requested a voluntary interview with New York radio host Randy Credico, an acquaintance of Former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone.

Credico told radio host Jimmy Dore on Sunday that Mueller wanted to interview him as part of his investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Credico later confirmed this to The Daily Beast, adding that he will not speak with Mueller unless he’s subpoenaed.

“The last thing that I would like to be known as is a rat,” Credico told the news outlet, adding that he received the request three weeks ago. “I didn’t talk to the House committee and I’m not going to talk to the Senate committee.”

Credico’s reasoning for not giving a voluntary interview is because he’s already been “pummeled” by Stone. He told The Daily Beast that Stone has accused him of cooperating with Mueller.

But Stone rejected that claim, saying that he’s only “badgered [Credico] to tell the truth.”

“I have never urged him not to cooperate with any official inquiry — only to tell the truth,” Stone said.

Credico has interested Congressional investigators for some time now because of his relationship with Stone. CNN reported in November 2017 that Stone told the House Intelligence Committee that Credico served as a backchannel for him and Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

The Daily Beast notes that Credico was subpoenaed by the House Intelligence committee last November.

In late May, the Wall Street Journal also reported that Stone asked Credico to ask Assange for emails about Clinton’s alleged role in interfering with a possible peace deal in Libya in 2011 when she was secretary of State. Credico has said he didn’t agree to Stone’s request.

Mueller’s request to interview Credico comes as his team investigates Stone’s contacts with WikiLeaks during the 2016 election, including an email in which Stone stated he met with Assange in person. Stone has contended that the email was a joke.

Credico added that he takes Mueller’s investigation “very seriously.”

“The investigators for the Mueller team I take very seriously and it’s not political, it’s professional,” he said. “You’ve got really professional investigators and prosecutors there and they’re not running for reelection, you know what I mean? So they’re not grandstanding.”
