Mace jeered on ‘Daily Show’ for response to Trump’s Georgia case

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) was jeered on “The Daily Show” on Monday for her response to former President Trump’s ongoing election interference case in Georgia.

Mace was responding to a question from host Charlamagne tha God about whether she believes the evidence presented against Trump.

“Which evidence?” she asked, which stirred up commotion from the crowd, including laughs and sounds of disapproval. She continued: “Which indictment, which one?”

Referencing the charges against the former president and his allies that allege they attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia, Mace said she has not “seen the evidence yet.”

“Again, I do a lot of civil rights work, and everyone is allowed due process under the law and if they’re found guilty, they take responsibility for that. But I haven’t seen evidence to show that he’s guilty of that,” Mace said.

Mace said “there are a lot of people around him that did a lot of things,” in reference to the three former Trump campaign attorneys who have already pleaded guilty in the case.

Mace was asked if she thought it was a waste of time to dig into Biden. Her response was met with additional laughter from the audience.

“Well, corruption is a real problem in this country, and I have seen bank accounts … of the president’s grandchildren with money directly from communist China,” Mace said.

The South Carolina congresswoman said she has seen the evidence against Biden and wants the public to see it.

“That should not be happening in our country, and it should be exposed for every … American to see and then decide whether or not that’s OK,” Mace said. “Whether there’s an impeachment or not, I want people to see the evidence that I’ve seen and make a decision for themselves.”

In the Monday interview, Mace was asked if she thought President Biden’s impeachment inquiry was a valid concern or if it was “tit for tat” because of the two impeachment trials Trump faced.

“What we should do is follow the facts, follow the truth and then come to a decision at the right time once we’ve had due process, once we’ve shown evidence whether or not an impeachment is warranted. That’s what the American people want,” Mace said. “That’s what they deserve, and that’s what we should do.”

In a statement to The Hill on Tuesday, Mace alluded to Biden selling out his country out for “mind-boggling amounts of money.”

“We’re not going to stop until 100% of Americans know the truth and know what happened with the Biden family and the amount and level of corruption,” Mace’s statement said. “This will be one of the most corrupt presidencies in United States history when we are done with it, and we shouldn’t stop until every single American knows what happened.”

In the “Daily Show” interview, Mace critiqued former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for his handling of the Biden impeachment inquiry; McCarthy came to conservative members and said they “are definitely impeaching Joe Biden,” then hours later told moderates they were “never going to impeach Joe Biden,” she said.

Mace has been an outspoken opponent of McCarthy’s and has said she felt demonized for voting to oust him. She wore a red “A” on her shirt, referencing “The Scarlet Letter,” after being one of eight Republicans who voted to remove McCarthy.

She believes new Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will follow due process for Biden’s impeachment hearings, she said.
