Russian lobbyist who attended Trump Tower meeting: ‘Happy and relieved’ Mueller report is done

A Russian lobbyist who attended the 2016 Trump Tower meeting said Tuesday he is “happy and relieved” that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is over.

“It hit me hard financially and led to baseless personal attacks,” Rinat Akhmetshin told ABC News in a statement, adding that the process took a “heavy toll on me and my family.”

{mosads}”As a result,” he said, “my ability to earn a living has been impaired, my professional standing has been undermined and my personal relationships have suffered.”

Attorney General William Barr sent a four-page letter to Congress on Sunday summarizing what he considered the top-level findings from Mueller’s 22-month probe.

According to Barr, the investigation did not find evidence of conspiracy between President Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.

The June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with Akhmetshin, Trump’s son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner, then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer promising compromising information on Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton was seen as a key event for those arguing that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.

Akhmetshin told ABC News that he cooperated with Mueller’s investigation “at every stage. I met with the investigators, produced documents, and testified truthfully before the grand jury. I did everything they asked of me.”

“Although the process has been an enormous distraction and financial burden, I have nothing but respect for the professional and courteous civil servants who treated me with fairness and dignity,” he added.
