Senior Palestinian official denied US visa

A senior Palestinian official said Monday that the U.S. denied her application for a visa to travel to the United States.

“It is official! My US visa application has been rejected,” Hanan Ashrawi, a top official in the Palestine Liberation Organization, tweeted.

“No reason given.”

Ashrawi, who was educated in the U.S. and has family living in the country, argued she had been rejected for political reasons in a series of tweets.

{mosads}She stressed her opposition to “Israeli occupation” and lack of “respect for the enablers of this inhuman condition.”

“As such this administration has decided I do not deserve to set foot in the US,” Ashrawi tweeted.

“I just hope someone can explain this to my grandchildren & all the rest of my family there,” she concluded.

Palestinians severed ties with the Trump administration after it recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

A State Department spokesperson told The Hill that the agency does not comment on individual visa cases, but added that U.S. law does not allow the refusal of visas based on political statements or views that would be legal in the United States.
