Trump: Stock market thriving because ‘they think I’m going to be elected’

Former President Trump said the stock market is doing well because investors are confident he’ll be elected again in 2024.

“So I mean, the Biden team can say, ‘Well, if things are so bad, how could the stock market’s on a roll,'” Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo asked during an interview with Trump set to air Sunday.

“Because they think I’m going to be elected,” Trump replied.

“That you think the stock market’s rallying because people think you’re going,” she continued, before Trump jumped in.

“Yeah. If you take a look at Iowa, if you take a look at New Hampshire. The stock market’s been going crazy since then,” Trump continued. “And and long before then, when I when I announced I was running, I took the lead early. And then I beat everybody, including Ron DeSantis. I call him DeSantis. And I took the other names that were.”

Trump has previously said his reelection bid is boosting confidence on Wall Street as The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 index hit record numbers in recent days.

Earlier this week, he said investor sentiment was soaring because his polls against Biden were “so good.”

President Biden’s campaign has mocked those remarks, saying this week the former president is “desperately trying to take credit for the stock market hitting record highs under President Biden.”

The national polls of a hypothetical Trump-Biden rematch are tight.

A CNN poll released Friday showed Trump with a 4-point lead over Biden. That followed a Quinnipiac poll Wednesday that showed Biden opening up a 6-point lead on Trump, thanks to a growing gender gap in support for the respective primary front-runners.

The Decision Desk HQ/The Hill polling average shows Trump with a slight lead over Biden in national polls.
