Future Forward, the most powerful Democratic-leaning super PAC, has plans to launch a $50 million advertising campaign in several states to introduce voters to Vice President Harris as the party’s likely nominee ahead of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) next month, The Associated Press reported.
“We’re ready to hit the ground running to make sure voters know that Kamala Harris will be a President that fights for them,” the group’s president Chauncey McLean said.
The ad campaign will run over the next couple of weeks, ahead of the DNC, which is scheduled to begin Aug. 19.
About half of the group’s ad investment will target low-information voters who are watching the Olympics, the AP reported.
The $50 million campaign is in addition to a $250 million digital and television ad investment that has already been scheduled to start in September, the group said.
The funding comes just days after Harris announced her campaign after President Biden stepped down from the race and endorsed her. In the hours and days following her announcement Harris raised a record-breaking number of donations and excitement for her candidacy rejuvenated Democrats who were worried Biden wouldn’t be able to beat former President Trump this fall.
Still, there are concerns that Republicans have a significant advertising advantage, the AP noted.
The advertisements will begin Sunday and be a positive biographical message about Harris. It describes Harris as a district attorney who “protected children from sexual predators,” and the attorney general who “stood up to the big banks to protect homeowners.” It will highlight her time in the Senate, where she “fought to defend a woman’s right to make her own medical decisions” and her time as vice president as someone who “fight to cap the price insulin at $35 a month,” The Washington Post reported.
Earlier Thursday, the Harris campaign released its first video, focusing on rights and freedom. Set to Beyonce’s song “Freedom,” Harris asks voters what kind of country they want to live in.
