Watch live: House Democrats give remarks as shutdown clock begins

House Democratic leaders speak during a news conference on Capitol Hill, Nov. 19, 2024, in Washington.

House Democratic leaders held a press conference Wednesday morning as their GOP colleagues grapple with internal divisions ahead of another looming shutdown.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has vowed to use the budget fight as a vehicle to block some of President Trump’s efforts to gut federal programs and issue tax cuts. The move likely raises the chance of a shutdown, with government funding set to lapse on March 14.

The press conference was slated to be led by House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) and Vice Chair Ted Lieu (D-Calif.).
