Watch: Senate holds hearing on FAA modernization
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee held a hearing Wednesday focused on reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), chair of the committee, said the hearing would focus on the administration’s efforts to modernize and transform the nation’s aviation systems — including addressing air traffic control shortages, encouraging new technology and protecting U.S. consumers.
“I look forward to this hearing helping us evaluate the implementation of the FAA reauthorization and assess what additional efforts may be required to ensure the safety and efficiency of the nation’s airspace,” Cruz said.
The push comes as President Trump and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy have vowed to overhaul the system following a slew of system outages and aviation accidents.
The hearing was scheduled to being at 10 a.m. EDT.
