King Charles ‘going to roll out the red carpet’ for Trump, UK ambassador says

King Charles III has big plans for President Trump’s state visit to the United Kingdom later this month, according to British Ambassador to the U.S. Peter Mandelson.

“The King is going to roll out the red carpet for President Trump,” Mandelson told Breitbart News in a recent interview. “I think the entire thing … is going to be very ceremonial, with lots of color, lots of pageantry.”

“I think it just shows how much our country respects the President, and I think it shows the closeness of our two countries,” he added.

Buckingham Palace announced last month that Trump had accepted the king’s invitation to visit Windsor Castle from Sept. 17-19.

“That shows, I think, the King’s tremendous regard for the President,” Mandelson told Breitbart. “But it’s going to be special, too, for another reason: It’s not going to be in London. It’s going to be in Windsor, at Windsor Castle, and the King and the Royal Family love that castle.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hand-delivered the king’s invitation to Trump at the White House earlier this year, while noting that it was rare for a head of state to receive a second state visit from the Palace. Trump’s first U.K. state visit took place in 2019 during his prior administration and was hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

“This is a very special letter,” Starmer told Trump during their Oval Office meeting in February. “I think the last state visit was a tremendous success.”

Trump immediately agreed verbally at the time, and the plan was finalized in August.

Mandelson has been the face of the U.K.’s charm offensive toward Trump, which paid off earlier this year when Britain struck the first bilateral trade deal amid Trump’s tariff war

The U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed to The Hill on Monday Mandelson’s comments but offered no other details.
