White House blasts Indiana law
The White House on Tuesday blasted Indiana’s religious freedom law, which critics say would allow businesses to discriminate against gays and lesbians.
{mosads}Press secretary Josh Earnest characterized Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) and other state officials as being in “damage control mode” amid a broad public outcry against the measure.
Earnest also accused Pence of “falsely” suggesting the Indiana law is the same as a federal law designed to protect religious institutions.
“That is not true,” Earnest said, calling the Indiana law a “significant expansion” of the federal measure.
The law “is not fair” and “is not consistent with our values,” Earnest added.
