White House clears advance staff in Secret Service prostitution scandal

The White House Counsel’s office conducted a review of their advance staff and found that none of their aides had been involved in any misconduct in the run-up to President Obama’s visit to Colombia.

The internal review, which began on Friday and concluded over the weekend, comes on the heels of allegations that Secret Service agents hired prostitutes in advance of the president’s trip. Several agents have resigned because of the incident.

{mosads}”The review has been conducted and there’s no evidence of any misconduct,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday during a briefing with reporters

“We conducted a review simply by due diligence of our people and it produced nothing,” Carney said.

Carney would not provide specific details of the review, only saying that the inquiry lasted a few days.

The inquiry began on the day that the president met with Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan. Carney said during Obama’s meeting with Sullivan, the Secret Service director did not offer his resignation.

Carney reiterated on Monday that Obama stands by Sullivan, adding that Obama’s security was not compromised as a result of the episode.
