The White House hit back at Karl Rove’s suggestion that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may have brain damage, with press secretary Jay Carney questioning the former Bush adviser’s own “cognitive capacity.”
“Here’s what I would say about cognitive capacity — which is that ‘Dr. Rove’ might have been the last person in America on Election Night to recognize and acknowledge that the president had won reelection, including the state of Ohio,” Carney said. “So we’ll leave it at that.”
{mosads}During a speech in Los Angeles last week, Rove repeatedly raised questions about Clinton’s health history.
“Thirty days in the hospital? And when she reappears, she’s wearing glasses that are only for people who have traumatic brain injury? We need to know what’s up with that,” Rove said, according to the New York Post.
Clinton fell and hit her head in December 2012 when suffering from a stomach virus, resulting in a blood clot.
Earlier Tuesday, Rove walked back his comments in interviews with The Washington Post and Fox News.
“Of course she doesn’t have brain damage,” Rove told the Post.
Still, during his interview with Fox, Rove insisted Clinton must answer questions about her health if she intends to run for president.
“My point was … that Hillary Clinton wants to run for president but she would not be human if this did not enter in as a consideration,” Rove said. “This will be an issue in the 2016 race, whether she likes it or not.
“If you go through a serious health episode, it causes you to look at life differently,” Rove said.
