White House: ‘Prudent’ for Texas cop to be placed on leave

Placing the police officer at the center of a violent confrontation outside a Texas swimming pool on leave was “the prudent thing” to do, the White House said Tuesday.

Press secretary Josh Earnest said the incident remains under investigation but noted images of officer Eric Casebolt pointing his gun at two black teenagers and wrestling a 14-year-old girl to the ground “have a detrimental impact” on relations between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Earnest said President Obama is aware of the news coverage surrounding the incident.

UPDATED 6:05 p.m.: Casebolt has resigned from the police force, his attorney told Fox4 News in Dallas-Fort-Worth.
