President Trump will meet with Ohio Gov. John Kasich, one of his most dedicated rivals during the Republican presidential primary, on Friday at the White House.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer said that Kasich has reached out to Trump on multiple occasions and requested the upcoming meeting.
“Now that he is president … he understands that he’s the president for every American and he’s talked consistently about having a united country,” Spicer said at Thursday’s briefing.
{mosads}“You do that by bringing people together whether or not they agree with you on every issue or on one or two. But if there’s common ground that can be found to move the country forward, then great.”
Kasich was critical of Trump throughout the campaign and never endorsed his candidacy leading up to the November election. The feud continued into January, with Trump calling Ohio Republicans in a successful effort to oust a Kasich ally from the leadership of the state’s GOP.
