Trump: Media ‘trapped’ at ‘very, very boring’ dinner in DC

President Trump wasted no time Saturday night tearing into news media attending this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, which he skipped to instead hold a rally.

“A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation’s capital right now,” Trump told a crowd in Harrisburg, Pa.

“They are gathered together for the White House correspondents’ dinner — without the president,” he said to a mixture of boos and cheers.

Trump said he “could not be possibly more thrilled” than to be more than 100 miles away from the Washington “swamp” holding a rally to mark his 100th day in office.

{mosads}The president needled organizers of the annual star-studded gala, boasting that his own event drew a “much larger crowd, and better people, too.”

“They would love to be with us right here tonight,” Trump asserted. “They’re trapped at the dinner, which will be very, very boring.”

Trump suggested that next year’s charity dinner in D.C. might be “more exciting” before adding: “But we have a good chance showing up here again next year.”

Trump skipped this year’s dinner, a decision he announced in February, becoming the first president since Ronald Reagan in 1981 to miss the event.
