Vice President Pence is standing by his claim that he learned about former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s Turkish lobbying work through the news media in March despite a report claiming President Trump’s transition team was aware Flynn was under federal investigation in January.
The New York Times
reported Wednesday that Flynn had informed the transition team prior to Inauguration Day that he was under investigation for not initially disclosing he was a paid lobbyist for Turkey.
{mosads}“The vice president stands by his comments in March upon first hearing the news regarding General Flynn’s ties to Turkey and fully supports the president’s decision to ask for General Flynn’s resignation,” Pence’s office said in a statement.
Flynn was fired in February after he misled Pence and other Trump administration officials about discussing U.S. sanctions on Russia in a December 2016 phone call with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
The FBI is currently investigating alleged ties between Russia and members of the Trump campaign, including Flynn.
