House Democrat speaks at Trump impeachment march in Los Angeles

Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman (Calif.) on Sunday called on other congressional lawmakers to join the efforts of impeaching President Trump as thousands of people in Los Angeles participated in an impeachment march, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“We have to act now to protect our country from abuse of power and impulsive, ignorant incompetence,” Sherman said to audience members while on stage, the newspaper reported.

{mosads}The California lawmaker said the testimony given by fired FBI Director James Comey, in which he confirmed that the president asked him to let go of his investigation into former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn, served as evidence of a “federal felony.”

The crowd reportedly supported Sherman’s speech with cheers as well as “lock him up” chants.

Sherman is the second House Democrat, after Rep. Al Green (Texas), to speak about writing up articles of impeachment.

Most Democratic leaders in the lower chamber rejected and warned against the calls to impeach the president, maintaining their distance from such measures.

“We have to find out what the facts are,” Rep. Adam Schiff (Calif.), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said last month.

Trump fired Comey while the FBI director was leading the agency’s ongoing investigation into whether Trump campaign aides colluded with Russia to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

His decision to do so came after reports that Trump had asked Comey to pledge his loyalty to him as well as drop the investigation into Flynn.
