Trump will appoint new judge to hear federal agency challenges: reports

President Trump will soon have the opportunity to appoint a judge to the powerful U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, following the reported retirement of Judge Janice Rogers Brown.

Brown, 68, has notified officials of her upcoming resignation, according to reports by The Wall Street Journal and Buzzfeed.

President George W. Bush appointed Brown to her current position in 2003.

The D.C. Circuit court, considered to be the second most-powerful court in Washington next to the Supreme Court, hears many high-profile cases involving legislative and executive authority.

Many Supreme Court judges have previously occupied Brown’s position on the D.C. Circuit, including three current justices and the late Antonin Scalia, who Trump replaced with Justice Neil Gorsuch.
