Conway: We didn’t need Russia to find damaging info on Clinton

Greg Nash

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway said on Friday that the Trump campaign didn’t need Russia’s help to obtain dirt on Hillary Clinton, because the candidate herself was a “treasure trove of negative information.”

“I was the campaign manager for the winning campaign. I didn’t have to look any further than Hillary Clinton when I wanted damaging, negative information in Hillary Clinton,” Conway said on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends.”

“It was all there. She was like a walking, talking treasure trove of negative information,” she said.

President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and other former campaign members are facing scrutiny for attending a meeting last year with a Russian attorney who promised compromising information about Clinton.

Trump Jr. has said the campaign received nothing of value from that meeting, and that the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, spoke mainly about a U.S. sanctions law and a Russian policy barring Americans from adopting Russian children.

A special counsel and multiple congressional committees are investigating Russia’s role in the 2016 election, as well as possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

The U.S. intelligence community concluded in a report made public in January that the Russian government sought to influence the election in Trump’s favor and operated a hacking and influence campaign to disrupt the contest.

Trump and his allies have repeatedly denied any coordination between the campaign and Moscow, and have slammed the investigation into the matter as a political “witch hunt.”
