Sarah Huckabee Sanders took over the White House press secretary Twitter account from the resigning Sean Spicer on Friday with a message thanking her predecessor for building up the followers.

“Thank you @SeanSpicer for the 2 million + followers #AmericaMustReallyLoveYou,” Sanders tweeted.

The White House press secretary Twitter account is passed down through administrations, meaning the account accumulated followers during former President Obama’s administration, according to an Obama White House digital transition explainer.

Outgoing press secretary Spicer announced he would be handing over the handle earlier on Friday.

Spicer resigned amid a White House communications staff shake up that saw the brief appointment  of Anthony Scaramucci to the communications director position.

President Trump removed Scaramucci from the post on Monday after just ten days on the job.
