Conservative activist: Kelly’s West Wing changes ‘portend great things’

Conservative activist Matt Schlapp on Sunday said John Kelly’s changes as White House chief of staff “portend great things.”

“He has got to get a hold of these agencies,” Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union, said during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”

“They’ve got to understand that the West Wing has to work with the agencies to develop these policies. So I actually think the changes in the West Wing under General Kelly portend great things.”

{mosads}Schlapp predicted that Kelly in his new role can fix the challenges facing the Trump administration.

“It was never set up in a way that made sense where you could see it working.  For the first time in this administration, I think the president is doing the right things on his agenda,” Schlapp explained.

“There has been too much turbulence around those decisions.  I think General Kelly can really straighten this out.”

Schlapp’s comments come after Kelly’s first week as the chief of staff at the White House, which has recently had to deal with the fallout from the departures of several top officials.

Kelly, the former Department of Homeland Security secretary and a retired Marine general, replaced Reince Priebus as chief of staff.
