San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz said she doesn’t care about President Trump’s attacks against her.
“This isn’t about me or politics. I’m not going to be the face you see out there just giving you a box of food for the photo op,” she told PRI.org, when talking about Trump’s tweets calling her “nasty.”
“I’m the face of the person who is going to make sure somebody gets that to you … so like the last scene of Gone With the Wind — ‘Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.’ “
{mosads}Trump went after the San Juan mayor after she criticized the federal response to the devastation in Puerto Rico.
The Trump administration has come under scrutiny in recent weeks for its response in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.
Over the weekend, Cruz went after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), claiming it has not responded to recent requests for help as Puerto Rico recovers from Hurricane Maria.
FEMA Administrator Brock Long responded to Cruz’s criticisms during an appearance on a Sunday show, saying the agency “filtered out the mayor a long time ago” and doesn’t have “time for the political noise.”
On Sunday, Trump said “nobody could have done what I’ve done” for Puerto Rico “with so little appreciation.”
A report Wednesday said the Puerto Rican city Trump visited earlier this month after Hurricane Maria is still mostly without power.
