President Trump resurfaced a 2009 event during which Hillary Clinton tried to reset relations with Russia as he faced criticism for believing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims that the country didn’t interfere in the 2016 election.

“Does the Fake News Media remember when Crooked Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, was begging Russia to be our friend with the misspelled reset button?” Trump tweeted Saturday. “Obama tried also, but he had zero chemistry with Putin.”

Then-Secretary of State Clinton had presented Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with a red “reset” button in 2009 to try and improve relations between the two countries.

The button had the English word “reset” on it as well as what the administration had intended to be the Russia word for “reset,” but was instead the word for “overload.”

The event was covered widely in the media at the time.

Trump tweeted about the event hours after he told reporters that he believed Putin when he said that Russia didn’t meddle in the 2016 election.

“Every time he sees me he says, ‘I didn’t do that,’ and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it,” Trump told reporters.

“I can’t stand there and argue with him, I would rather have him get out of Syria,” Trump said. “You have President Putin very strongly, vehemently says he has nothing to do with that. Now, you are not going to get into an argument, you are going to start talking about Syria and the Ukraine.”
