Trump: We’re getting ‘closer and closer’ on tax bill

President Trump on Sunday tweeted that Republicans are getting “closer and closer” on the GOP tax plan.

“Getting closer and closer on the Tax Cut Bill. Shaping up even better than projected. House and Senate working very hard and smart,” Trump tweeted.

“End result will be not only important, but SPECIAL!”

{mosads}The tax-reform push has become a central piece of the White House’s agenda, as Trump has called on Congress to deliver a bill to him before the end of the year.

The Senate passed its legislation earlier this month by a narrow margin.

The House-Senate conference committee on tax legislation is now tasked with reconciling the differences between the House- and Senate-passed tax bills and producing a final package that Trump can sign. Republicans are hoping to get the final legislation on his desk this month.

The committee will hold an open meeting next week.

Both bills cut taxes for individuals and corporations, but the measures have a number of differences, including the ObamaCare mandate, individual tax rates, the alternative minimum tax, the estate tax and provisions relating to pass-through businesses.
