Conservative watchdog head: Do we need to shut down the FBI?

The head of a conservative watchdog group says the FBI was “compromised” by Hillary Clinton’s campaign during last year’s presidential race.

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, said on Fox News Thursday night that he thinks the FBI worked closely with the Clinton campaign to “get Donald Trump.”

“I think the FBI’s been compromised,” Fitton said. “Forget about shutting down Mr. Mueller. Do we need to shut down the FBI because it was turned into a KGB-type operation by the Obama administration?”

Fitton pointed to recent reports that FBI agent Peter Strzok was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation because of anti-Trump text messages he sent to an FBI colleague during the campaign. In one of those messages, Strzok called Trump an “idiot.”

Fitton also referred to Fusion GPS, the private research firm behind the controversial Trump-Russia dossier, calling the firm a “Hillary Clinton campaign vendor.”

“There was no distinction between the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Department of Justice and the FBI,” Fitton said.

The Clinton campaign funded the research behind the dossier. The New York Times reported that Clinton herself did not know about the dossier until it was published by Buzzfeed News in January.

Republicans and Trump have criticized what they say is political bias in the FBI, highlighting the Strzok text messages as evidence that the Russia investigation is a “witch hunt.”

Strzok also worked on the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of State.
