Trump floats working with Dems on infrastructure

President Trump said Friday that he predicts Republicans will start working with Democrats “in a bipartisan fashion,” suggesting his infrastructure plan as a place to start.

“At some point, and for the good of the country, I predict we will start working with the Democrats in a Bipartisan fashion,” Trump tweeted Friday. “Infrastructure would be a perfect place to start.”

Trump is expected to unveil his long-awaited infrastructure plan in the coming weeks after he signs the tax-reform bill passed by Congress into law.{mosads}

The president has been open to bipartisan work with Democrats before, securing a government funding deal with Democrats earlier this year.

But tensions have escalated between the two parties after the GOP pushed its tax plan through Congress without any Democratic votes, and Democratic leaders pulled out of a meeting with Trump last month after he tweeted that he didn’t “see a deal” to avoid a government shutdown.

Trump has previously said he wasn’t sure if he would reach out to Democrats to work on the plan.

Democrats have also expressed outrage that a fix to extend protections for “Dreamers” — young undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children — wasn’t included in a year-end government spending bill.

However, some Democrats have previously signaled that they might be willing to work with Trump on infrastructure.
