President Trump praised the United Nations Security Council’s vote on Friday to impose tougher sanctions on North Korea, calling it a sign that the international community “wants peace, not death.”

“The United Nations Security Council just voted 15-0 in favor of additional Sanctions on North Korea. The World wants Peace, not Death!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Trump’s tweet came hours after the 15-member Security Council unanimously approved a resolution slapping tougher sanctions on North Korea in the latest international effort to push Pyongyang into negotiations over its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

The latest penalties seek to halt nearly 90 percent of the country’s refined petroleum imports and limit crude oil supplies to 4 million barrels a year.

Trump’s praise of the Security Council’s vote on Friday contrasted with his administration’s frustration with the U.N. a day earlier, when the General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to condemn the United States’ decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
