Carl Bernstein: Mueller focused on Kushner ‘like a laser’

Veteran journalist Carl Bernstein claimed Tuesday night that White House senior adviser Jared Kushner is “in the crosshairs” of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation after the White House adviser had his security clearance downgraded.

“Jared Kushner is in the crosshairs of special prosecutor Mueller’s investigation, which is focused in part on Jared Kushner like a laser,” Bernstein said on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360.”

“And there is every expectation in the White House and among lawyers that are representing other people in Mueller’s investigation that Jared Kushner has many, many strikes lining up against him in the Mueller investigation,” the Watergate reporter continued.

Kushner, who is also President Trump’s son-in-law, had his security clearance downgraded from top secret to secret late last week, according to multiple reports.

The Washington Post also reported Tuesday that foreign officials have discussed how to use Kushner’s business interests and lack of foreign policy experience to their advantage.

Kushner handles a broad range of responsibilities in the Trump administration, including negotiating Middle East peace.

Bernstein said Kushner’s financial dealings while in the White House, and the issues surrounding his security clearance, could become a focal point of Mueller’s probe, which is focused on Russian interference in the 2016 election.
