Trump has ‘never had a better time’ than as president

President Trump on Sunday said he enjoyed an evening with members of the media and has “never had a better time doing something” than he has as president.

“The Gridiron Dinner last night was great fun. I am accomplishing a lot in Washington and have never had a better time doing something, and especially since this is for the American People!” Trump tweeted on Sunday.

The Gridiron dinner, which took place Saturday night, is a Washington, D.C., tradition featuring dozens of journalists and politicians trading light-hearted jokes.

The event is similar to the White House Correspondents’ dinner — which Trump did not attend last year. It features roast-style speeches, skits and comedy from both lawmakers and journalists.

Trump’s speech was filled with self-deprecating humor and slight jabs at his own administration and his usual political targets.

During his speech, Trump joked that he was late “because Jared couldn’t get through security,” referring to his senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner recently having his security clearance downgraded.

He also joked that Vice President Pence is just waiting for him to be impeached but added that “you can’t be impeached when there’s no crime.”

“Lately [Pence is] showing a particularly keen interest in the news these days. He wakes up every morning and asks, ‘has he been impeached yet?’ I don’t like that,” Trump said.

Almost every president has attended the event since it began in 1855.
