White House officials mulling rehiring fired Trump personal aide McEntee: report

White House officials are weighing whether to rehire a personal aide to President Trump who was abruptly fired this week.

Politico reported Saturday that White House chief of staff John Kelly has told aides there are discussions about hiring John McEntee to a role in the Trump administration.

It’s not clear how far along the discussions about rehiring McEntee are. According to Politico, those talks are still in their early stages.

McEntee, a close personal aide to Trump, was fired this week before being immediately hired to work for the president’s reelection campaign.

The exact reason for his ouster remains unclear. The Washington Post reported Thursday that McEntee was let go because an investigation uncovered that he was a frequent gambler.

While there’s nothing illegal about McEntee’s gambling, officials were concerned that the habit could pose a security risk, according to the Post.
