Poll: Americans find Comey more trustworthy than Trump

Americans trust former FBI Director James Comey more than President Trump, according to a new poll.

Respondents to an ABC News-Washington Post poll taken April 8-11 said that Comey is “more believable” than Trump by a 48-32 margin.

Trump fired Comey in May, purportedly over his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails, but acknowledging later that the FBI investigation into possible collusion between his campaign and Russia played a role.

{mosads}Nearly half — 47 percent — of poll respondents said they disapproved of Trump’s decision to fire Comey, compared to only 33 percent who said they approve.

The poll was conducted ahead of the release of Comey’s new book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership,” in which he gives an account of his time in the Trump administration.

Excerpts of the book were released Thursday.

The poll was conducted among 1,002 adults, and has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
