ABC poll: Trump approval hits highest mark since first 100 days in office
President Trump in a new poll hit his highest approval rating in the survey since his first 100 days in office.
The Washington Post/ABC News poll finds 40 percent of respondents approve of the job Trump is doing in the White House. Another 56 percent disapprove of Trump’s performance, however.
A majority of Americans living in rural areas, 59 percent, approve of the job Trump is doing. Fifty-three percent of whites also say they approve of Trump’s job performance.
{mosads}A vast majority of racial and ethnic minorities, 79 percent, disapprove of the job Trump is doing.
The poll also finds that slightly less than half of respondents, 46 percent, approve of Trump’s handling of the economy, compared to 48 percent who disapprove.
A majority, 61 percent, has an unfavorable view of Trump “as a person,” according to the poll.
Just 32 percent of respondents say they have a favorable view of Trump as a person.
The poll was conducted April 8-11 among 1,002 adults. The margin of error is 3.5 percent.
According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, 43 percent of respondents approve of the job Trump is doing in office and 53.7 percent disapprove.
The poll comes after the FBI last week raided the office of Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen. A tip from special counsel Robert Mueller’s office reportedly sparked that raid.
Trump has since lashed out at Mueller’s Russia probe, which the president has repeatedly referred to as a “witch hunt.”
