President Trump in an early morning tweet on Sunday described the “enthusiasm, knowledge and love” at a campaign-style rally in Michigan as “unreal.”
“Great evening last night in Washington, Michigan. The enthusiasm, knowledge and love in that room was unreal,” he wrote.
“To the many thousands of people who couldn’t get in, I cherish you….and will be back!”
{mosads}Trump said at a rally in Washington, Mich., Saturday evening that he could face impeachment if Republicans lose the House majority in the midterm elections.
“We have to keep the House because if we listen to Maxine Waters, she’s going around saying ‘We will impeach him,’ ” Trump said.
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) often calls for Trump to resign or face impeachment.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), however, has warned against Democratic impeachment efforts, saying they would end up harming the party before the midterms.
Trump in Michigan also threatened to “close down the country” unless Congress approves funding for his long-promised wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and slammed Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) for pushing allegations against Ronny Jackson, Trump’s former nominee to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs.
As the president discussed possible talks with North Korea, he was met with chants suggesting that he be given the Nobel Peace Prize.
“That’s very nice, thank you. That’s very nice,” Trump replied to chants of “Nobel, Nobel, Nobel.”
The rally came as journalists attended the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
This is the second year the president has skipped the annual event, which brings together members of the media and government officials to raise money for scholarships.
“Is this better than that phony Washington White House Correspondents’ Dinner? Is this more fun?” Trump asked the audience to uproarious applause.
“I could be up there smiling with these people, they hate your guts,” Trump said.
