Trump visits Melania at Walter Reed for third consecutive day

President Trump visited first lady Melania Trump at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Wednesday, making his third trip to the military medical center this week as his wife recovers from kidney surgery.

White House pool reports indicated Trump arrived via helicopter at the Maryland hospital just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and left after nearly two hours at the hospital.

Melania Trump tweeted Wednesday about the surgery, marking her first public statement since the Monday operation to treat a “benign kidney condition.”

“A sincere thank you to Walter Reed Medical Unit @WRBethesda & to all who have send good wishes & prayers! I am feeling great & look forward to getting back home @WhiteHouse soon,” the first lady tweeted Wednesday.

The president told reporters at the Capitol on Tuesday that the first lady is “doing really, really well,” but did not comment further on her condition.

Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s communications director, issued a statement on Monday saying that the “procedure was successful and there were no complications,” but added that Melania Trump would likely stay at Walter Reed for the rest of the week.

The president also tweeted about his wife’s condition Monday, describing it as “successful.”

“Successful procedure, she is in good spirits. Thank you to all of the well-wishers!” he wrote.
