Giuliani says Mueller has narrowed scope of questions for interview with Trump

Special counsel Robert Mueller has agreed to limit the scope of his questions for President Trump as part of ongoing negotiations to settle on an interview, Rudy Giuliani said Thursday. 

Giuliani, who represents Trump in the Russia probe, told The Washington Times that Mueller’s team has “eliminated a lot of subjects” that Giuliani felt would have been considered “fishing.” 

He did not specify which topics have been dropped. 

“He’s eliminated those [subjects] and he’s into a much more relevant area where we know the answers and we know the answers really can’t be effectively contradicted,” Giuliani told The Washington Times.

Thursday marked one year since Mueller was appointed to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. His appointment was prompted by Trump’s decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey. 

Giuliani said Thursday that he does not believe Comey would be “worth anything” as a witness in the Mueller probe.

In light of the anniversary, Trump took to Twitter on Thursday morning to attack the probe.

“Congratulations America, we are now into the second year of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History,” Trump tweeted, denying any “collusion” or “obstruction” by the Trump campaign or Moscow.

Trump has spent much of the last year railing against Mueller’s probe. He has deemed it a “witch hunt” and a “hoax” on numerous occasions. 

Still, Trump has said publicly that he would be willing to do an interview with Mueller, though his lawyers have largely advised him against it.

Four former Trump associates have thus far pleaded guilty or been indicted as part of the probe. Mueller, so far, has filed charges against 13 Russians and three Russian entities for allegedly interfering in the election.
