Trump Jr. on GOP: ‘If it’s a cult, it’s because they like what my father is doing’

Donald Trump Jr. on Thursday responded to Sen. Bob Corker’s (R-Tenn.) assertion that the GOP was becoming a “cult-like situation” in relation to President Trump, saying that if Republicans are a cult it’s “because they like” what Trump is accomplishing.

“I think that’s ridiculous,” Trump Jr. said on “Fox & Friends” of Corker’s comment. “I think, you know what, if it’s a cult, it’s because they like what my father is doing.”

“You see real Americans actually winning for a change, conservatives actually getting things done,” he continued.

Trump Jr. then cited Senate Democrats’ agreement to not include protections for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in the funding bill to end a government shutdown earlier this year.

“Americans want to see someone who’s actually going to have conviction, not just talk about it with great soundbites and then when it comes game time they sit there and fold,” the president’s son said.

“They want someone who’s going to be like my father and fight and actually want to win, and actually want to win elections,” he added.

Corker said on Wednesday that some members of the GOP are becoming “cult-like” in their support of the president. The senator made the comments after his bill to rein in Trump on tariffs was blocked from getting a vote

“We are in a strange place. I mean, it’s almost, it’s becoming a cultish thing, isn’t it? And it’s not a good place for any party to end up with a cult-like situation as it relates to a president that happens to be of — purportedly — of the same party,” Corker said.
