Ethics watchdog releases one-word statement on Pruitt resignation: ‘Good’

A government watchdog group released a one-word statement following the news that scandal-ridden Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt had resigned on Thursday.

“Good,” Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) Executive Director Noah Bookbinder said in the statement.

President Trump announced in a tweet on Thursday that he had accepted Pruitt’s resignation.

“I have accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency,” Trump wrote.

EPA Deputy Administrator Andrew Wheeler will become the acting administrator when Pruitt leaves at the end of the week.

Trump praised the “outstanding job” Wheeler has done at the agency.

Pruitt has been surrounded by high-profile scandals for months.

He is facing more than a dozen federal investigations for several controversies, including accusations of excessive spending of taxpayer money, close relationships with industry lobbyists and claims that he took advantage of the position for personal gain, as well as the personal gain of his top aides.
